BlackRock’s Rick Rieder Emerges as Contender for Fed Chair Position
BlackRock executive Rick Rieder has reportedly gained traction as a potential Federal Reserve Chair candidate, according to a TRUMP administration official. The veteran financier, who joined BlackRock in 2009 after nearly two decades at Lehman Brothers, recently underwent a two-hour interview with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Their discussion covered critical topics including monetary policy and the Fed's structural framework.
Bessent reportedly praised Rieder's extensive career experience and his analytical approach combining micro- and macroeconomic indicators. The Treasury Secretary particularly noted Rieder's innovative use of forward-looking data to assess economic conditions—a methodology that could bring fresh perspective to the central bank.
While Rieder's candidacy gains momentum, prediction markets still show Fed Governor Christopher Waller as the frontrunner with 31% odds. The succession race remains fluid as the administration evaluates multiple qualified candidates, with the decision expected to significantly influence future monetary policy direction.
